The story of the Romani people is a tale of migration, one that begins in northern India and stretches across continents. Over centuries, they have carried many names, adopted new customs, and spoken different languages. Yet despite their diversity, they stay united by one shared tradition: music.

With Latcho Drom, director Tony Gatlif delivers a film that transcends genres, blending documentary, fiction, and musical performance. Being of Romani descent himself, Gatlif makes it a point to dedicate this work to this community that has long been misunderstood and misrepresented. He follows the ancestral path of his people, moving from India to Spain, passing through Egypt, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and France. With an almost ethnographic gaze, each chapter of the film portrays the life and history of the Romani people exclusively through their music. With breathtaking performances by Romani artists, Latcho Drom captures the very essence of music: both a powerful form of expression and a medium for collective history.
