Kino immer anders

In the Qin dynasty, during a time of political division, a nameless warrior is summoned to the imperial court to defeat the king’s most feared enemies -the assassins Sky, Broken Sword, and Flying Snow. As he recounts his tales of epic battles, the king begins to question the veracity of his stories, interjecting his own interpretations of the events, and the story unfolds in multiple ways.

Such is the premise of Hero, a typical wuxia film. When first released in China in 2002, it was the most expensive and highest-grossing project of its time. Each change of narrator is characterized by a unique color scheme representing natural elements, adding a visual cue to the shift in perspective. This is a Rashomon-style fairytale that keeps remolding itself in different versions, punctuated by intricate choreography and grandiose battles, all to showcase the beauty of chivalry and justice.
